Race Day Information For The 10K

The 2019 Kirkbymoorside 10K takes places on Sunday 3rd May 2020.

Race Registration

Kirkbymoorside Memorial Hall, High Market Place.

The registration office is open from 10:30am for you to register your arrival and collect your race number, baggage label and event t-shirt.

Write your emergency contact & medical details on the reverse of the race number (avoiding the timing chip sticker) and attach to THE FRONT of your top before the race start (we have safety pins in case you forget them). If you have a known medical condition please ensure it is entered into your medical information and put a ‘X’ on the front of your race bib in the top right-hand corner.

Start Time

The 10K starts at 2pm.

Please be in the starting area (see map) no earlier than 1:50pm.

Race T-Shirts

For logistical simplicity, when you collect your race number you will then be able to collect your t-shirt from another desk in the registration hall. You entered your prefered size when you registered for the race – please take that size. The registration hall is very busy and space is at a premium so trying on differently sized will not be allowed.

Although you entered your size when entering, t-shirts are on a first come first served basis. There will be enough for everyone but, as we have to order them before we close entries, we cannot guarantee your prefered size.

It would be wonderful to see as many people as possible running in their race t-shirts too!

Timing Chip

We are again disposable timing chips on to the back of your race bib number. This will make it much easier for you and us when you come through the finishing funnel!

During the Race

The race will be led by our race car with the race clock on the top. At the back of the field we will have our sweeper car. If you are unable to continue please wait for the sweeper car to collect you. If you withdraw from the race and make your own way back please report to a race official at the start/finish area to let us know. We wait for ALL runners to finish the race.

ROAD SAFETY – The majority of the 10k is run on open rural roads. For your safety and that of other road users it is imperative you keep to the left-hand side of the road where possible. Please listen to and follow the instructions of our safety marshals positioned around the course – chasing a PB is all well and good until you run into a moving vehicle!

Travel

Kirkbymoorside is located 7 miles to the west of Pickering and 20 miles to the east of Thirsk. The postcode to use for your sat nav is YO62 6DG.

We are not aware of any specific road travel issues in our area for the 5th May. Further afield, down in West Yorkshire, the Tour de Yorkshire event is taking place so there will be localised road closures in that area.

Road Closures

There are a number of road closures to be aware of.

As a guide, the closures will be:

  • 12:50 to 13:30 – Market Place & High Market Place (inc. Howe end until approx. 13:05)
  • 13:50 to 14:20 – Market Place, High Market Place, Dale End (from the mini roundabout to Manor Vale Lane)
14:00 to 16:00 – Hagg Road closed to westbound traffic (from Gillamoor Rd) & Bitterdale Lane closed (from Gillamoor Rd to Fadmoor)

Please be aware that if you drive up Tinley Garth or out of Crown Square while Market Place is closed then you will be stuck and have to wait until the road re-opens. The road closure orders are in place and authorised operatives are in attendance to see that they are safely adhered to.

Note that although the road is not closed for the Beadlam Charity Tractor Run there will be up to 200 tractors making their way through the town centre at approximately 11:45. This will create a period of slow-moving traffic until around 12:30.

Residents of Kirkbymoorside:
It would be helpful if you spread the word to not park on the Market Place cobbles or opposite from Saturday evening to allow event staff to put up the safety barriers.

Car Parking

There are 3 primary car parking locations for use as identified on the town map below.

Please avoid parking in the town and side streets. This helps keep congestion to a minimum and avoids upsetting our residents.

The Town Farm pay and display car park (the one closest to the start on the map) will be free of charge on race day – thanks to Ryedale DC. Please note, however, that access to this car park will be disrupted due to the charity tractor run and earlier children’s races.

Bag Store

Your race number will come with a detachable baggage label that you can use to store a single bag in our bag store.

This year the bag store has moved to the “Dugout” which is in the basement of the Memorial Hall where race registration is. This is accessed from steps, outside on the southern corner of the building – look out for the sign.

Bags are left in the bag store at the owner’s risk. While the bag store will be supervised at all times, the Kirkbymoorside 10K nor The Friends of Kirkbymoorside CP School can accept liability for any loss or damage.

Any bags not collected by the time the store closes at 4:30pm will be taken to Kirkbymoorside CP School for safe keeping. If you do forget your bag, please contact the school on 01751 431517from Tuesday 7th May to arrange collection.

First Aid

We have Medics UK with us again this year providing our first aid cover.

The main medical centre will be in the Moorside Room within the start/finish zone. We have a medic team on the course, with a medical tent, at the halfway point in Fadmoor (give them a wave on your way past) and cycle first-aiders will also be on the course too.

If you do get into any difficulty and require medical attention please alert the nearest marshal or flag down the cycle first aiders. If you are not near a marshal ask another runner to do so on your behalf. We have a medical plan in place and full paramedic ambulance on stand-by should it be required.

Water

There are two drinks stations on the route. The first station is in Gillamoor village outside the school (approx 4km) and the second at Hagg Road (approx. 7km). We also have water at the finish. Our water this year is kindly supplied by the Co-Op store in Kirkbymoorside.

Bottle recycling

We know that the use of plastic bottles at races is a hot topic at the moment. Please be assured that we collect all the waste bottles of water for recycling.

Refreshments

We have 4 pubs within a stone’s throw of the start/finish area; the George & Dragon and the Kings Head offer food and dining. There are two cafes in the town too and we expect there will be the usual burger van too.

There will be a cake and refreshment stand run by Friends of Kirkbymoorside School.

Results

The results of the 10K will be available on our website at 5pm on Sunday 6th May.

Weather permitting, there will be computers available at the back of the timing van adjacent to the finish line for you to check your chip time immediately.

Other Events on the Day

The Beadlam charity tractor run (supporting the Yorkshire Air Ambulance) will come through the town along with the Kirkbymoorside Town Band at approximately 11:45am. It’s worth arriving in time to see this spectacle as over 150 vintage tractors trundle through the town.

We have 3 other races on the day

  • 12:55 pm – The children’s 400m dash – for nursery age to school year 2
  • 1:00 pm – The 4k fun run for people 11 years and over
  • 2:10 pm – The children’s 1 mile for school years 3 to 6Entry on the day is available for all these additional races.

Other bits & bobs

  • Please ask any supporters not to use their cars to look for you at locations along the route as the roads are narrow and the traffic can cause problems for other runners.
  • Headphones are not permitted during the race. This rule is in line with UKA regulations and as such, any runner seen to be wearing headphone of any type will be disqualified.
  • If you have any issues or questions on the day please speak to any of the event volunteers wearing either pink or yellow high-vis vests.
  • Please like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter – it’s a great way for us to get messages out to you.
  • Please share this event with your friends, family and running clubs.
